This hike follows Muddy Creek from Hidden Splendor up to the Chute. Along the way are colorful geology, eroded cliffs, lush greenery and dramatic narrows when you reach the Chute. You walk most of the way in shin-deep water which is nice on warm days. The river bottom is smooth and climbs gently but walking against the flow gets tiring after a couple hours. The return downriver is easier. If time and energy permit you can continue further up to experience more of the Chute's exciting narrows.

Hidden Splendor Mine is fairly remote so be sure to allow for enough driving time before and after the hike. For example, it's about 90 minutes each way from Green River.
The dirt roads leading to the mine are graded and generally well-suited for highway vehicles. However the road surface is often covered by fine beige dust which gets kicked up easily as you drive along. We recommend keeping your windows closed and setting your ventilation system to recirculate so you don't end up with dust covering the inside of your vehicle.
