Portal Overlook

USA> Moab> Colorado Right Bank>

Overview

hike2.8int

This hike climbs to an overlook high above the west side of the Colorado River Portal, then traverses to the Moab Rim. Along the way are steep slickrock slopes, tall beige-orange sandstone cliffs and beautiful views of the Colorado River Gorge. The overlook offers a panoramic vista of Moab Valley from Arches to the La Sal Mountains. The traverse beyond the overlook follows a dramatic narrow shelf that can be scary but isn't too dangerous as long as you're careful to stay on the trail.
