Overview

hike3.3adv

This hike climbs to the summit of Black Mountain from Los Altos Hills. Along the way are singletrack trails, graded climbs, switchbacks, periodic views, steep fire roads and utility towers near the top. The summit offers a 360 degree panorama of South Bay cities and the coastal range. The trails are partially shaded and well groomed, making for pleasant conditions. It's a popular workout route for trail runners but not overly crowded. Keep an eye out for ticks and poison oak.

The hike begins at the Rhus Ridge trailhead. No drinking water or restroom facilities are provided but free trail maps are usually available.

The small parking lot at the trailhead holds only 10 cars and fills up quickly, especially on weekends. If the lot is full, try parking on Altamont Road near the Los Altos Hills Pathway.
