Overview

hike3.8int

This hike climbs to the Lost Horse Mine in Joshua Tree National Park. The route follows an abandoned dirt road through foothills and shallow drainages to the site of an old gold mine, one of the best preserved mining ruins in the park. The short out-and-back route to the mine takes you past joshua trees, yucca and cactus and is relatively easy but it's not spectacular. For a longer hike, continue south from the mine along a smaller trail that loops back through more varied terrain with better views.
