Colorful Tributaries

USA> Palm Springs> Mecca Hills>

Overview

hike3.0adv

This hike loops through Big Colorful Canyon and two tributaries in the Mecca Hills. You start up a wide wash with green scrub and white walls contorted by seismic activity. After passing beige-orange narrows you turn and follow a twisting tributary canyon to its upper end. You scramble over a steep ridge with views of the Salton Sea, then follow a second tributary back down to close the loop. Use caution when scrambling over the ridge. If it's uncomfortable you can skip it and just return the way you came.
