This popular hike follows the coast from Mokuleia to Ka'ena Point. You can either work your way slowly along the rough, pretty shoreline past eroded rocks and small beaches or walk inland on a faster but less scenic dirt road near the base of the cliffs. Eventually the cliffs taper away and you reach a fenced preserve with a beacon, naupaka, sand dunes, a small coral beach, tide pools and a rocky point forming the western tip of Oahu. You may see nesting seabirds, monk seals and in winter possibly whales.

Park in one of the dirt pullouts at the end of paved Farrington Hwy. Avoid leaving visible items in your car as break-ins are common. The hike begins by walking west along either the shoreline or the dirt road paralleling the coast.
If you have 4WD you could shorten the hike by driving some or most of the way along the dirt road. You'll need a permit and a vehicle suitable for rocky, rutted and often muddy conditions.
