Spencer Waialea

Overview

hike3.5adv

This hike rewards you with six different beaches, three of which are rated among the best on the island. Along the way the trail passes through pleasant shoreline with coast views, rough lava fields, residential areas and the manicured grounds of the Mauna Kea resort. There's a somewhat ugly section of badlands just before the last beach at the far point of the hike. As an option, you can skip the last beach and turn back early for a shorter hike that avoids this part.

Hike is worth less than 3.5 after Hapuna Beach, better to turn around before the ugly dirt area with web of roads and save Waialea Beach for another hike

Hike includes 3 "real gem" beaches: Mauna Kea, Hapuna and Waialea. Beach hike: CEK route based on Doughty & Friedman map page 140. Also see Sprout TH7 page 42, TH8 page 51, TH9 page 52.
