Kealakekua Bay

Overview

hike3.8int

This hike follows the Ka'awaloa Trail to a Captain Cook monument at the shore of Kealakekua Bay. The rough, rocky trail descends steadily to the site of an ancient Hawaiian village. Just to the northeast you'll find the monument and a stone jetty - a famous spot for snorkeling. Sights include coast views, dramatic cliffs, colorful birds and fish, and maybe feral goats. Before returning, it's worth exploring the contorted lava shoreline to the west around Cook Point. Bring water for the hot climb back up.
