Mahukona Lapakahi

USA> Hawaii> Big Island>

Overview

hike3.0int

This hike follows the coast from Mahukona Beach to Lapakahi State Historical Park. You head south from Mahukona on faint trails across grassy bluffs and rocky shorelines, then switch to Lapakahi's groomed pathways through an ancient fishing village. You'll enjoy shady groves, coast views, palm trees and historic sites. After returning to Mahukona you can optionally follow an abandoned railway north to Kapa'a Beach. This starts out shady and rewarding but eventually opens up and may become rather hot.
