Holoholokai Honoka'ope

USA> Hawaii> Big Island>

Overview

hike3.0int

This hike follows the coast from Holoholokai Beach Park to Honoka'ope Bay. You'll enjoy white and black sand beaches, coral shorelines, large ponds, colorful fish, foot bridges, palm trees, resort lawns, luxury homes and jagged lava bluffs. The resorts are often crowded but offer spots for swimming, refreshments and restrooms. It's mostly easy walking but there is a stretch of rough lava just before Honoka'ope Bay. You can skip this on the way back by detouring inland on the Ala Kahakai (King's Highway).
