Pu'u Wa'awa'a

USA> Hawaii> Big Island>

Overview

hike3.0int

This hike climbs Pu'u Wa'awa'a, a prominent cinder cone on the north flank of Hualalai. You climb steadily on paved and dirt roads through a former ranch, past native forest and grassy fields. You may see cows, sheep, goats, pigs and a variety of birds. The satisfying summit offers excellent 360 degree views of the island's west coast and 4 of its major volcanoes. You can loop back down via the 'Ohia Trail for variety. Bring water and start early as the sustained climb can be unpleasant during midday heat.
