Bartlett Northeast Rim

USA> Moab> Bartlett>

Overview

hike4.0adv

The first part of this hike is an exhilarating walk along the northeastern rim of Bartlett Canyon featuring long, smooth sections of multicolored slickrock, continuous desert views and relatively few terrain detours. Eventually you reach a saddle with views into Tusher Canyon. Most people will choose to turn back at this point, but if you're looking for adventure and don't mind hard work and vertical exposure you can continue south along the rim to rarely-visited Battleship Mesa.

You can get to the trailhead either from the north via Blue Hills Road or from the south via Mill Canyon Road. The northern route via Blue Hills Road is a little longer and smoother and better for highway vehicles. The southern route is shorter and rougher but can still be fine for highway vehicles as long as you drive carefully and watch out for occasional rocky spots, drainage dips and sandy stretches. If it has rained recently, the northern route is a safer bet for highway vehicles.
