Kalena from Kolekole Pass

USA> Hawaii> Oahu>

Overview

hike4.0exp

This exciting hike climbs from Kolekole Pass to the summit of Kalena, the second highest peak on Oahu. You follow the Waianae crest climbing up and down over minor peaks, through uluhe jungle, and along dramatic narrow volcanic dikes. When clear there are continuous panoramic views of the Wahiawa plain and Waianae coast. Long stretches of unavoidable exposure above dangerous drops make this hike suitable for experts only. Unfortunately the route has been closed since 2013 and has become heavily overgrown.

Dogs

Are dogs allowed?

Historically, Schofield Barracks has allowed hikers to park in a pullout just before the locked gate at the top of Kolekole Pass. The hike to Kalena began between the trees on the west side of the road.

Since 2013 Schofield Barracks has no longer allowed hikes in the area due to live fire training exercises.
