Overview

hike4.5adv

This hike takes you from the top of Haleakala down into its eroded crater, across the crater floor between colorful cinder cones and finally back up to the rim on dramatic switchbacks. Along the way are sweeping crater views, tall cliffs, volcanic pits, colorful geology and stands of silversword plants. The switchback climb at the end is exciting and graded for relatively easy going. Best done early as clouds often roll into the crater by late morning.
