Wilkinson Bridge

USA> Newburyport>

Overview

hike3.0int

This run follows the Merrimack River bank from Market Square to the top of the Donald Wilkinson Bridge. Along the way are historic downtown Newburyport, Georgian and Federalist homes, Joppa Flats and views across the river and grassy marsh. You run on sidewalks first, then on a paved bike lane along the Plum Island Turnpike. The smooth surface and flat terrain make for easy going but there's no shade so it's best to avoid hot summer afternoons. For extra distance, continue on to Plum Island.
