Devils Canyon - West

USA> San Rafael Swell>

Overview

hike3.0int

This hike follows the middle portion of Devils Canyon and explores some interesting narrows. Along the way are a pretty canyon, convoluted cliffs, colorful geology and few signs of human presence. You can extend the hike by continuing down the main canyon. There are long stretches of sandy wash bottom which can get tiresome after a while. There's a little traffic noise from I 70 but it isn't bad. Bring a 10 m (30 ft) rope for easy access to the main slot section.

Getting there

Planning your trip

open accessdogs welcomeapr - oct4WD vehicle

Park just off the road near where it crosses Devil's Canyon wash.

4 wheel drive is recommended due to some rough, rocky drops in the last 2 km (1 mi) of Devils Canyon Road. If you don't have 4 wheel drive you can park above the rough section and walk down to the trailhead.
