Overview

hike2.5adv

This challenging hike climbs the length of Day Canyon from the Colorado River up to Long Canyon Road. Along the way are convoluted red cliffs, canyon vistas, spires, boulders, trees, desert scrub and signs of ancient ranching. A jeep road used to run the length of the canyon but is heavily eroded or gone in many places. Cairns mark some sections but there's a lot of bushwhacking, especially near the upper end. Bring plenty of food and water as it's a long way through rough and rarely-visited terrain.

Park across the highway from an old gate. There's a gravel pull-out big enough for 2-3 cars. The hike begins by walking across the highway, crossing the railroad track and stepping over the gate.
