Ma'akua Ridge

USA> Hawaii> Oahu>

Overview

hike2.0int

This hike follows the Ma'akua Ridge Trail into foothills above Hau'ula town. The singletrack trail loops over two ridges and through three gulches. Along the way are stream crossings, switchbacks, a covered picnic table, occasional coast views, wildflowers and a wide variety of vegetation. The route is mostly shaded, making this a decent option on warmer days. Be prepared for muddy spots and lots of mosquitoes after recent rain. For a longer hike, combine this with the adjacent Hau'ula Loop Trail.

Park in one of the lots at Hau'ula Beach Park. The hike begins by crossing the highway and walking a couple blocks up Hau'ula Homestead Road to the trailhead.

It might be possible to park closer to the trailhead, but street space is limited. Starting from the beach reduces impact on the neighborhood and means you'll have access to showers and restrooms where you park.
