Big Split - Middle Loop

USA> Palm Springs> Mecca Hills>

Overview

hike4.8exp

This exciting hike climbs the Middle Fork of Big Split Rock Canyon then loops back down its Right Fork. Along the way are dramatic twisty slot canyons, convoluted narrows, intricate erosional forms, colorful geology, suspended boulders and tunnel-like passages beneath hanging slabs. The branching canyons provide a fun sense of exploration. Navigation is tricky so it's best to use GPS. Some ladders are provided but there are several unassisted 10-15 ft (3-5 m) drops requiring intermediate scrambling skills.
