This hike loops through Big Colorful Canyon and the Burnt Sienna Cutoff. Along the way are a white wash, contorted geology, a twisting red-brown slot canyon, short scrambles, a rolling ridgetop, ocotillo, colorful rock outcrops and a long easy return. The ridgetop section offers continuous views of the Mecca Hills and Salton Sea. The wash bottom is mostly smooth and free of sand, making for easy going. It's best to start early to appreciate the colorful geology and avoid the mid-day sun.
