This hike follows the shoreline from Waimea River to Pakala Point. Along the way are the ruins of Russian Fort Elizabeth, beaches, tide pools, driftwood, Ho'anuanu Bay, two small stream crossings and continuous views of Ni'ihau and Lehua across the water. You may see crabs, sandpipers and monk seals. The highlight is hours of wild, undeveloped beach smooth enough to walk barefoot. Keep an eye out for unexpectedly strong waves as few people frequent this part of the coast.
