Rocky Ridge

USA> Bay Area> East Bay>

Overview

hike3.0int

This hike loops along the length of Rocky Ridge from Bollinger Canyon. Along the way are a paved and dirt service roads, a long steep climb, dry grassy hillsides, an antenna installation, cow pastures, cattle and a stretch of oak forest. The long ridgetop section is fun with open rolling terrain and continuous views over the surrounding canyons. Side trails allow for shorter or longer hikes as desired. There's not much shade so wear sun protection and bring plenty of water during warm weather.

Dogs

Are dogs allowed?

Park in the lot at the Bollinger Canyon Staging Area.

If you have an East Bay Municipal Utility Department (EBMUD) hiking permit, follow the service road all the way to the antenna installation as indicated. Permits for groups of up to 4 cost $3 for 1 day or $10 for 1 year.

If you don't have a permit, turn left at the EBMUD gate and follow the singletrack Rocky Ridge View Trail up to the ridgetop. This slightly shorter route skips the antenna installation but is otherwise very similar, including most of the length of Rocky Ridge.
