Overview

hike3.2adv

This hike climbs Pu'u Heleakala from Nanakuli. You start off crossing a grassy field and scrambling past a WWII pillbox. Next a long climb up a rough trail along the main ridgeline leads to the summit. You get continuous ridgetop views and a sweeping panorama of the Waianae Mountains and the "Hawaiian Pyramid" from the top. If you don't mind route-finding and scrambling through overgrown vegetation you can make it a loop by following a faint, intermittent trail down a steep side ridge to the valley floor.
