This hike starts on the Kalalau Trail then climbs Hanakapi'ai Valley to a spectacular waterfall. The first part is fun and exciting with lush jungle and fantastic views of the Napali Coast. And you'll love Hanakapi'ai Falls, a towering ribbon of water feeding a large pool in an amphitheater of sheer cliffs. Unfortunately the heavily eroded valley trail can be an unpleasant slog due to tangled roots, rough rocky patches, frequent mud bogs and crowds waiting in line for stepping stones at stream crossings.

No permit is required for day hikes to Hanakapi'ai Falls.
Park in the lot for Ke'e Beach Park at the end of the road. Restrooms and showers are provided. The hike begins at a signed trailhead opposite the beach.
Try to get there early as the parking lot at the trailhead fills up quickly, especially on weekends. There's a larger overflow parking lot about a 5 minute walk back down the road, but even this often fills up by late morning.
