Rainbow Mesa

USA> Moab> Rainbow Rocks>

Overview

hike2.8adv

This hike loops around an isolated mesa that forms an offshoot of the Rainbow Rocks rim. You're treated to hours of dramatic clifftop terrain along a rim of undulating, multicolored slickrock with continuous desert views. The rim gets quite steep in spots and there's a tricky part where you scramble over a ridgetop - you may have to explore a bit to find a passable route. A downside is 45 minutes of walking along sandy ATV trails and washes to reach the mesa, which can get tiresome in mid-day heat.

Park off the side of BLM 336 at the signed intersection with an ATV trail. (BLM 336 is also known as Duma Point Road, or the Crystal Geyser Safari Route.) No facilities are provided. The hike begins by walking southeast along the ATV trail.

If you actually have ATV(s) you can drive most of the way across the valley floor and save yourself about an hour of walking roundtrip.
