Malaekahana to Pupukea

USA> Hawaii> Oahu>

Overview

hike2.7exp

This difficult hike climbs Malaekahana Ridge over the Ko'olau Summit to Pupukea. Along the way are lush jungle, interesting ridgetop terrain, convoluted highlands and frequent views over the windward coast and North Shore. You start and end on easy trails and roads. The difficult part is the wild, rarely maintained middle section. Be prepared for a long day of route-finding, sliding in mud, clinging to trees, choking back hordes of gnats and fighting step by step through thick, scratchy overgrowth.
