This hike climbs the coastal end of Ohikilolo Ridge. You follow a metal fence in a long rolling climb along the ridge top with dramatic terrain, occasional steep scrambles, some narrow spots and continuous views over Makua Valley. Next you scramble down a steep side ridge to the valley floor. Finally an easy descent along dirt roads leads back to the highway. There's no shade and the area is often hot so bring plenty of water. For a longer hike, continue along the main ridge to the summit of Ohikilolo.

Park off the side of the highway near the southern end of a metal fence marking the edge of the Makua Military Reservation. The hike begins by climbing the bluffs just outside the fence to gain the ridge top without entering the reservation.
