This satisfying workout hike climbs Dunn Road from Cathedral City to its junction with the Art Smith Trail. You climb intermittently through foothills and open desert backcountry, with frequent views of nearby peaks and the Coachella Valley. Eventually you reach the signed junction at a clearing with picnic tables - a good spot for a break. The road is wide and mostly smooth hard-pack, allowing for quick progress. For a longer hike continue along Dunn Road or down the Art Smith Trail toward Palm Desert.
