Stairway to Hell

USA> Hawaii> Oahu>

Overview

hike4.5exp

This hike visits the Stairway to Hell, an abandoned stairway on the north rim of Haiku Valley. You first climb to the Moanalua Saddle, then follow the Ko'olau Summit Trail north with continuous clifftop views to the top of the stairway. It's possible to descend the stairs but they were never completed so you can't reach the valley floor. Frequent vertical exposure makes this route suitable for advanced hikers only. The rusted, unmaintained steps and railings have sharp edges and may collapse unexpectedly.
