Overview

hike4.0adv

This hike climbs Mount Saint Helena, the second highest summit in the Bay Area. You start off switchbacking up a singletrack trail under mixed forest, then climb steadily past chaparral on a wide, well-maintained dirt road. The summit area dotted by communications towers offers a satisfying 360 degree panorama over the surrounding area. The views are best on clear days during cooler months. Most of the route is unshaded so wear sun protection. Keep an eye out for poison oak along the singletrack portion.
