Overview

hike2.8int

This hike climbs from Lucas Valley to Loma Alta, the 4th highest point in Marin County. The route follows a portion of the Bay Area Ridge Trail, climbing steadily up fire roads along subtle ridge tops to a broad double summit. You may encounter grazing cattle, lizards, hawks and vultures. The upper portions offer views from the San Francisco Bay to the Pacific Coast. The scene along the dirt roads isn't especially beautiful but the big views, open terrain and solid workout make for a decent hike overall.

The dirt pullout at the trailhead has room for about a dozen cars. It's best to arrive early to get a spot, especially on weekends.
