Ridge Coast Loop

USA> Bay Area> Point Reyes>

Overview

hike4.0adv

This hike loops over the south end of the Point Reyes mountains on the Ridge and Coast trails. You'll enjoy hours of gradual climbs through beautiful conifer forest on quiet, well-groomed trails. Eventually you descend through changing vegetation and loop back along the coast past lakes and blufftop views. An optional side spur leads to Alamere Falls. Most of the route is peaceful but the Coast Trail can get very crowded. For a shorter hike with fewer people consider an out-and-back along the Ridge Trail.

The Palomarin Trailhead has a parking lot and restrooms. The hike begins by walking east along Mesa Road. After 20 minutes or so watch for the signed Ridge Trailhead on the left (east) side of the road.

The Palomarin lot often fills up on weekends. If you can't park there, drive back east along Mesa Road. There's a small lot about 0.4 mi (0.6 km) from Palomarin, and a larger lot at the Point Reyes Bird Observatory.
