Overview

hike3.0int

This hike follows the Cove to Lake Trail from La Quinta Cove to Lake Cahuilla County Park. The northwest half climbs gradually along dirt roads up a wide valley flanked by colorful foothills. Near the midpoint of the route you reach a pass festooned with ocotillo. The southeast half descends single track trails through a canyon, past a golf course and eventually along a sandy wash. The park at the far end makes a nice snack spot with its palm trees, grass grounds and shaded picnic tables near the lakeshore.

Getting there

Planning your trip

open accessno dogsoct - aprany vehicle

To begin the hike from the northwest end park either in the small lot on Calle Tecate or in the larger lot just to the east on Avenida Bermudes.

There are trailheads at both ends so you could do the hike in either direction. If you prefer to start from the southeast end, park at Lake Cahuilla County Park instead.

Dogs are permitted in the areas immediately surrounding both trailheads but are prohibited in between along the trail.
