Hanauma Bay Ridge

USA> Hawaii> Oahu>

Overview

hike3.5int

This hike loops over the summit of Koko Head, often called Hanauma Bay Ridge. You start off climbing steeply along a paved service road overlooking Hanauma Bay. Eventually you reach the top with antenna towers and panoramic views of Eastern Oahu. From the summit, rough dirt roads descend toward the ocean, curving around old craters. After a short scramble you reach a dramatic rocky point at the shoreline with tide pools and a picturesque sea bridge. Be wary of powerful, unpredictable waves in the area.

The ridge is popular and frequently hiked by locals, however signs posted at the beginning of the paved road say "government property" and "no trespassing", and there have occasionally been news reports of hikers being threatened with fines. Use your judgment.
