Mokuleia Trail to Three Corners

USA> Hawaii> Oahu>

Overview

hike3.5adv

This hike climbs from Mokuleia to the crest of the Wai'anae Mountains. You start with a long aerobic climb up paved Mokuleia Access Road past steep spots and coast views. Next you continue on dirt roads through Peacock Flats under dense conifer forest. Then you follow the singletrack Mokuleia Trail through jungle to benches at the crest overlooking Makua Valley. An optional extension along the steep, rough, scratchy WST leads to Three Corners with even more views over Makaha Valley and the North Shore.

Getting there

Planning your trip

Park in one of the dirt pullouts along Farrington Hwy between Kaiahulo Dr and Makaleha Beach Park. The hike begins by crossing the highway and stooping through a gate at the signed beginning of Mokuleia Access Road. This paved road is closed to civilian vehicle traffic but is usually open for hikers, runners and cyclists.

Alternatively, for a much shorter and easier version of this hike it's possible to skip Mokuleia Access Road and start directly from Peacock Flats. This would require a long drive in a 4WD vehicle and permission to access the Kuaokala Reserve from Ka'ena Point Tracking Station.
