Pu'u Ma'eli'eli Pillboxes

USA> Hawaii> Oahu>

Overview

hike3.0int

This popular hike climbs Pu'u Ma'eli'eli to a pair of WWII bunkers above Ahuimanu. There isn't much to see on the way up but you'll enjoy climbing a shaded ridgetop to a double pillbox at the summit with good views over Kaneohe Bay. Most should turn back from the summit. Advanced hikers looking for more adventure can loop back via rough, obscure, overgrown trails across the east flank. Avoid going when wet as the clay soils become slippery and unpleasant. Pu'u Ma'eli'eli means "digging hill" in Hawaiian.
