Overview

hike3.5adv

This challenging and rewarding hike loops over the summit of Montara Mountain from Moss Beach. You'll enjoy multiple summits, open ridgetops, continuous views, green canyons, mixed forest and horse stables. On clear days the upper portions offer panoramic views over the Pacific Coast and San Francisco Bay. Challenges include sustained climbs, steep descents, slippery slopes, unmarked trail junctions, frequent poison oak and a gruelingly steep 10-15 minute climb past a series of utility towers.

The loop as described ends with an hour-long walk along residential streets through Montara and Moss Beach. If you have multiple vehicles you can avoid this by staging one in Montara near the lower end of the Alta Vista trail.

Dogs are allowed on-leash on trails in the Rancho Corral de Tierra section of GGNRA, excluding fenced or signed areas.
