Overview

hike3.5adv

This hike explores Lost Spring Canyon in a remote corner of Arches National Park. You descend an old road, then follow the streambed downriver through green cottonwoods past salmon-colored sandstone walls festooned with alcoves, arches, domes and spires. Eventually you turn left and head up a side branch past Convert Arch to a dramatic slot canyon in red sandstone. An optional detour into a small tributary canyon leads to better views of Convert Arch from its south side. Bring plenty of water on warm days.

When well maintained, the dirt roads leading to the trailhead are suitable for 2WD vehicles with reasonable ground clearance as long as you keep an eye out for occasional rough spots. In wet or sandy conditions 4WD may be required.
