This spectacular and difficult hike explores the northernmost rim of Big Mesa out to a point overlooking the Determination Towers. You'll enjoy hours of slickrock shelves, dramatic clifftop terrain, continuous views, colorful geology and a feeling of adventure. Difficulties include hours of vertical exposure, steep scrambling, slippery rocks and soils, route finding and a narrow ledge above a huge drop. The rim may look forbidding but it is doable with skill, a cool head for heights and "determination".

You may be able to reach the start point in a 2WD vehicle if it isn't too sandy and you keep an eye out for a few rocky spots. Use your judgment.
If you have 4WD, you can optionally shorten the hike by driving about 0.8 mi (1.3 km) further south along the wash and parking near the next road junction.
