Jackson Highlands via Mining Road

USA> Moab> Colorado Left Bank>

Overview

hike3.5adv

This hike follows a faded mining road up the southern end of the Amasa Back plateau. You'll enjoy sustained aerobic climbs, boldly colored geology, dramatic cliffs, sandstone buttes and continuous canyon views. The highlight is an abandoned mine with long tunnels tapering into the gloom. The old roads are rough and eroded but allow for fairly quick walking. Be wary of falling rocks below unstable cliffs. You could bring lights to explore the tunnels but keep in mind they've been unmaintained for decades.
