Merrimac Rim

USA> Moab> Mill Tusher>

Overview

hike4.0adv

This challenging adventure traces the east rim of Big Mesa to a point facing Merrimac Butte. You'll face hours of route-finding, rough and rocky terrain, grueling slopes, scratchy overgrowth and vertical exposure. In return you'll enjoy the rush of exploration along a wild shelf perched above towering cliffs with colorful geology and continuous views. Look for faint game trails when forced to pass through vegetation. Be wary of rockfalls and take care when crossing through unstable terrain above big drops.

Are dogs allowed?

If you have 4WD with high clearance, drive to the Determination Towers and start the hike from there as described.

If you have a 4WD vehicle without high clearance, you could park on Tusher Canyon Road near the last road junction just north of the narrows. This would add about 4 km (2.5 mi) each way to the hike.
