Hidden Canyon - West Rim

USA> Moab> Bartlett>

Overview

hike3.5adv

This hike explores the west end of Hidden Canyon. You'll enjoy small meadow valleys with colorful sandstone cliffs and shady narrows with soaring red walls. The highlight is looping around the rim of a multihued slickrock mesa with continuous views over the surrounding canyons. You reach the narrows via branching Jeep roads. Avoid trampling fragile soils when venturing off road. Accessing the mesa involves some scrambling on steep slickrock - it's a little tricky but no technical gear is required.

To reach the indicated trailhead you'll want 4WD with high clearance to handle deep soft sand with drifts/ruts over 0.3 m (1 ft) high.

You can optionally shorten the hike by 3.2 km (2 mi) roundtrip by driving further into the canyon before parking, but you would miss most of the meadow valley.

If you have 4WD without high clearance you could park where 3D Safari Route first enters the northeast end of Hidden Canyon. This would add about 3.2 km (2 mi) roundtrip to the hike.
