Camelback Mountain

USA> Phoenix>

Overview

hike3.0int

This popular hike climbs over Camelback Mountain on the Cholla and Echo Canyon trails. You'll enjoy open ridge tops, continuous views and fun beginner scrambling. The satisfying summit offers 360 degree views over the expansive Phoenix region. A one-way trip over the mountain involves just 5 km (3 mi) of trails but will take most hikers 2 to 3 hours. Be prepared for lots of steep climbs, rough rocky terrain, tricky footing and awkward spots requiring hands. Go early to beat the crowds and mid-day heat.

The Echo Canyon trailhead at the west end has a parking lot with restrooms but may require an entrance fee. The Cholla trailhead at the east end offers free parking along Invergood Rd but no facilities.

The route as described follows the two trails over the mountain, then loops back along city sidewalks. You could shorten the hike by staging a vehicle at either end, or by returning via taxi/ride share.
