Tom's Thumb

USA> Phoenix>

Overview

hike3.5int

This popular hike climbs to Tom's Thumb, a granite dome high point in the McDowell Mountains. You'll enjoy groomed trails, switchback climbs, frequent views and a good variety of cactus and yucca. The highlight as you near the top is a series of granite formations reminiscent of Joshua Tree. The hiking trail ends at the base of the Thumb. Skilled rock climbers can ascend it. Afterward you can optionally take a side spur to The Lookout for views over Windgate Pass. Go early to beat the heat and crowds.
