Duma Point - North Rim

USA> Moab> Rainbow Rocks>

Overview

hike3.0adv

This rewarding adventure explores a convoluted slickrock rim north of Duma Point. You'll enjoy hours of seldom-visited slickrock rims and plazas, dramatic cliffs and gullies, colorful geology, sand dunes and desert views. As you work your way south, steep terrain and complex side canyons force you to switch between upper and lower levels of the rim. Be prepared for frequent route-finding, vertical exposure, scrambling and prolonged exposure to heat and sun. Use GPS, start early and bring plenty of water.

Getting there

Planning your trip

open accessdogs welcomemar - nov4WD vehicle

The dirt roads leading to the White Wash Sand Dunes Recreation Area are well maintained and suitable for regular highway vehicles. With a little care, you could probably even drive a 2WD vehicle down the slope to the edge of the wash.

The North Rim slickrock begins approximately 1.6 km (1.0 mi) up the sandy wash. It's best to have 4WD so you can drive up and start your hike right on the slickrock. If you don't have 4WD you could walk up the wash, but this would add 3.2 km (2.0 mi) of tedious, roundtrip walking through deep sand.
