This short, rewarding hike climbs to the summit of the Kelso Dunes. You'll enjoy an expansive dune field, dramatic ridgetops, complex wind-eroded forms, continuous desert views and a fun sense of adventure. The trail is initially well-defined but gradually fades into the windswept sands so it's best to use GPS. There are a few steep climbs but you can make these easier by keeping to patches of firmer ground. Avoid going on days with strong winds unless you have head and face protection.
