Wild Horse Canyon

USA> San Rafael Swell> South Reef>

Overview

hike3.5int

This hike up the bottom of Wild Horse Canyon is a good introduction to hiking in the San Rafael Reef. It may not be as spectacular as the canyons a little further southwest but it's easy to get to and easy to walk through with few obstacles. Along the way are beige sandstone cliffs, salmon-colored walls, a mostly smooth gravelly bottom and a couple of interesting narrow sections. There's one spot where intermediate climbing skills are required but it can be detoured if desired.
